Junior Achievement Africa has been selected by Delta Air Lines to receive scholarships for 10 students to attend the National Flight Academy (NFA) in Pensacola, FL for one week during Summer 2019!
The aim is to teach beneficiaries some core competency skills that would boost their interest in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).
During the 6-day overnight program, the 10 students will live aboard the AMBITION, a state-of-the-art virtual aircraft carrier.
They will work together with the organisers to plan humanitarian missions with ultramodern, advanced technology in a team squadron format and collaborate to complete the missions using a variety of STEM-based concepts.
They would also learn to fly in 42 networked flight simulators, eat on a mess deck, sleep in staterooms and receive mission briefings in six fully electronic ready rooms.

It is expected that the experience will teach beneficiaries some core competency skills like leadership, communications, and critical thinking while inspiring their interest in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).
About the National Flight Academy
The National Flight Academy is a premier STEM education institution that provides students in grades 7-12 with a fully-immersive, learning adventure of a lifetime.
Participants live for 6 days in a multi-story, 102,000 square foot facility experiencing theme-park style thrills surrounded by advanced technology, flight simulators, and virtual reality games that ignite imagination and encourage learning.
The NFA’s adventure begins with the landlocked, virtual aircraft carrier, “Ambition (CVT-11).” Each deck of the Ambition is designed to simulate a modern aircraft carrier. The main deck houses the galley, mess deck, administrative spaces and the aircraft hangar bays. The first deck is dedicated to academic spaces including the operations and intelligence centers while the second and third decks house berthing (crew quarters), lounges and activity rooms. The facility is designed in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
Following the 6-Day NFA experience, beneficiaries will become fundamentally aware of the integration of mathematics and science into their daily lives by measuring, collecting, analyzing and interpreting data.
