3 important ways to dry out your wet iPhone or Android smartphone

Almost all modern phones are built with a little degree of water resistance or waterproof. The new google pixels, Apple iPhones, and Samsung Galaxy devices all have water-resistance or waterproof features.

However, how well your phone can resist water all depends on your smartphone’s Ingress Protection(IP). The higher your device’s IP the better it can sustain water splashes. The iPhone 12 has an IP68 rating, which means it can withstand prolonged immersion in water. Find your Phone’s IP ratings.

If you don’t own an iPhone 12 and you have a lower Ingress Protection(IP), using this fix will help save your phone from being water-damaged. Here are 3 important ways to dry out your soaking wet phone.

dry out phone

First Things First

The first and obvious thing you’d have to do to dry out your phone is to retrieve the phone from the water so that the damage doesn’t become huge. Put the phone off, don’t try to tap other buttons to check the impact of the damage. Put it off quickly so the circuit doesn’t get exposed to the water.

Have patience

Secondly, you might have probably heard of this fix but you might end up damaging the electronics inside the phone. DO NOT blow-dry or stick your smartphone in the oven. The heat will damage your phone. Take the case off and gently blow the air out. Be careful not to push the water further inside.

The Fix

Lastly, inserting your phone inside rice might work to dry out the water in the phone. Even though rice is absorbent, it might not be able to collect the hidden moisture in the phone. However, I prefer using synthetic desiccants(drying agents) for efficient results. Synthetic desiccants are those tiny square packets you find in packages like shoeboxes with “DO NOT EAT” boldly written on them. It contains silica gel which absorbs moisture quickly. Desiccants are not messy like rice and dry up moisture efficiently.

You can still save yourself from further damage if you follow these steps. You might as well get a phone with higher Ingress protection(IP) and enjoy swimming with your phone.
