3 Ways You Could Be Reducing The Performance Of Your Windows PC

As users of smart devices, especially personal computers (PCs), we are often tempted to make some slight changes to improve the performance of our devices. But sometimes, we end up reducing the performance of the PC instead.

Usually, this happens without the user realizing what he/she might be doing wrong to cause the slowing down or change in the performance of the PC. There are several resources available online but not all of these resources are useful.

So, instead of helping your device work properly, you may end up reducing the performance of your Windows PC. Thus, the need for this guide is to walk you through some of the possible ways you could be reducing the performance of your Windows PC.

Here are some ways we knowingly/ unknowingly do to reduce the performance of our PC

1. Disabling Automatic Windows Updates can affect PC performance

Software developers and engineers are paid to work on updates because they are very important for the PC. If not, then there wouldn’t have been frequent updates for Windows PCs.

Although sometimes it becomes very frustrating because of its frequency and you may want to disable automatic updates, you should think about it again. This is because updates are made for you to access the latest features and sometimes fixes to some already existing issues.

For this reason, choosing not to update your Windows automatically can cause your PC to continue performing less than what it should be doing. For some PCs, when you do not update your Windows for some time, some of the system apps may not work properly.

Hence, it is advisable to enable automatic Windows updates on your PC as they may in the long run help increase performance.

2. Installing Apps and Programs From Untrusted Sources may reduce PC performance

One of the most common ways Windows PCs get viruses is through the installation of software from some malicious/unknown sites. These sites appear to be normal on the outside but deep within the setup of the app or program, there is a virus.

To simply prevent yourself from falling victim to such attacks, never install programs for your Windows PC from untrusted sources. Usually, you are notified by your browser/ PC when trying to install from those sites.

Take note of such sites and never make an installation from there. You can use the Microsoft Store or any other “trusted” source to install apps or programs for your Windows PC since it will either improve the performance or maintain it without having any negative effect on it.

3. Disabling the Microsoft Firewall Defender

The Microsoft Firewall Defender as the name suggests is the “police” of your Windows PC. It acts as a shield that prevents viruses and malware from entering your computer and gives you an alert of such occurrences.

Because of its job, it always looks through your computer and protects it from being infected in any way possible. Therefore, it is always advisable to enable the Microsoft Firewall Defender and allow it to work for your PC.

Avoid all apps that require you to disable windows defender before they can install. Except you know what you are doing.

In situations where you may need to disable it for some time, make sure you have an antivirus that can work in place of the Windows Firefall Defender until you enable it back on. This will go a long way to improving the performance of your Windows PC.

Conclusion

Sometimes, our little mistakes from ignorance go a long way to affect the overall performance of our devices. Some TikTok and Instagram hacks and tips may work for some time but with time, they may end up leaving your computer exposed to harmful attacks.

They can also reduce the performance of your PC. Therefore, follow the three (3) tips given in this guide and you can improve how well your Windows PC performs.
