Hilda Baci, a prominent individual in the realm of cooking, was slated to attend a highly anticipated meet-and-greet event in Abuja.
Chef Hilda was to perform a live cooking section at the event. The organizers had diligently negotiated a contract with Baci, and a considerable sum of money was agreed upon as her fee. Expectations were high after the chef’s recent breakthrough as the current holder of the longest marathon cook in the Guinness Book of Records.
News circulating on the internet is that Baci charged N25,000 for personal meet-ups, live cooking, and food tasting in Abuja on June 24, 2023, at Vibe By Ann’s restaurant.
However, after backlash from social media users, Baci denied charging such an amount of money; according to her, the management of the Abuja restaurant was using her image for their own gain.
A flyer of the event surfacing on the internet has Baci’s image, which makes the whole event about her.
She disclosed that the flyer wasn’t part of the deal, and she was not comfortable with that idea. On account of this, she refunded the money she had previously received.
Meanwhile, the event planner filed a lawsuit against Baci for denying collecting N3 million for the meet and greet event; as a result, the event had to be canceled.
On June 12, 2023, the management of the restaurant said in a statement, “We regret to inform you that the highly anticipated event, scheduled to take place on June 24, 2023, has been canceled. We extend our sincere apologies for any inconvenience this may have caused you, our esteemed customers”.
“Arrangements for this event were already concluded, as both parties agreed to put out publications for the event after an advanced payment was made to Miss Hilda Bassey”.
