In recent years, the iPhone has gained more use and popularity around the world, especially in the Ghanaian market. According to some research and statistics from Ghana iPhone users, two out of ten people own an iPhone in Ghana. This rate goes exceptionally higher when you narrow it down to university and high school students. Based on the research done using 20 people, we have five to six out of ten people owning an iPhone.
Because of this, the scammers in the phone market have also increased because people are so eager to buy iPhones and these scammers end up selling fake iPhones to them at high costs.

How then can you tell if your iPhone is original? Gone are the days when the apple logo behind the phone was an indicator that you are using an iPhone. Now those covers or housings can easily be put on any regular phone. Here are some of the ways to spot the difference between an original iPhone and a fake one.
Check The Serial Number
- Go to the iPhone Settings
- Go to General
- Hit About
- Scroll and search for the Serial Number
- Confirm the authenticity of the serial number at Check coverage.
Check The Display
When you turn on the iPhone, it should display the apple logo and not any text or picture like iPhone or welcome.
Check The Build/Structure
The iPhone has beveled edges not square or sharp edges. If you see an iPhone with sharp edges it is not likely to be a fake.
Check The Model Number
Another very important thing to do is to check the model number of the iPhone, you can do this by:
- First, go to Settings
- Then select General
- Tap About
Search for the model number. It will most likely look like a string of alphanumeric text like this RH3D5WN/A. The first letter of the model number usually tells you the condition of the phone
- M– Brand new
- R – Replaced
- P – Personalized or customized
- F – Refurbished
If the first letter is none of the above then it is most likely a fake
Check for SD Card Slot
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});The iPhone does not come with an sd card slot. It only has a slot for the sim card so if you see an iPhone with an sd card slot, it is most likely a fake.
Conclusions
There are numerous other ways to tell if an iPhone is original or fake. You can check the number of buttons on the phone, depending on the type of phone, you would be able to tell how many buttons should be on the phone. There are also a few special features, for instance, you can set the phone such that tapping the apple logo behind the phone takes a screenshot. If the iPhone you want to buy doesn’t have this feature or cannot do this then there is a high chance of it being fake.
We should all be guided and educated so as not to end up giving up our monies for fake products. You can buy yourself an original iPhone from the official apple store or any accredited phone shop in Ghana like Franko trading enterprise, Freddies corner, and CompuGhana.
