According to the National Communications Authority (NCA). The Data Zone package will shortly be reinstated by Scancom PLC, the MTN Ghana operators, with updated fees for its customers.
MTN Ghana has been offering customers an affordable offer called “Data Zone”, this bundle offer has been running for over a year now.
However, MTN announced the suspension of its data zone bundle service in a press release on April 12, 2023. The decision, which took effect on April 5, 2023, left many customers disappointed.
MTN stated in the press release that, the decision to suspend the Data Zone bundle was due to a review of the bundle offer in line with the Significant Market Power (SMP) directives applied to MTN Ghana in June 2020, not to be the lowest priced on any offer in the industry.
The mobile network, however, apologized to its cherished customers for limiting their communications on this matter to service activation channels only.
MTN Ghana went further to assure all customers that the data zone bundle will be reinstated as soon as possible. “we seek alignment on a revised Data Zone bundle to be reinstated as soon as possible.” Statement said.
However, the service was scheduled to be reinstated, according to NCA CEO Joseph Anokye, after MTN Ghana filed a revised data zone bundle that complied with their legal requirements.
On account of this, Mr. Anokye disclosed at a press briefing in Accra on 26 April that, the Scancom PLC has amended their data zone bundle. “MTN has since submitted a revised data zone bundle which has been approved by the authority. It is our expectation that the product will soon be available.” He said.
