Ghanaian Afro-pop, High Life, and songwriter Haruna Buhari publicly known as Nanky has lamented how Vodafone Ghana Music Award left him alone.
Nanky, signed by Sultan Incorporation Record Label, won the Unsung Award from VGMA in 2021, which was his debut award from the Ghana Vodafone Music Award.
Following his triumph at the first Global Music Awards Africa earlier in the year 2021, when his track “Favour” with Sarkodie won the Global Best Video of the Year Award, Nanky gained more audience in his fan base.
At the 2021 4syte Music Video Awards, he also took home the prize in the New Lord category.
Upon receiving the VGMA Unsung Award, the ‘Favour’ hitmaker expresses his gratitude to Vodafone Ghana Music Award and his fans.
“A big thank you to the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards and all loyal fans who supported me by voting and sharing my works,” He said.
However, in a recent interview at Hitz FM 103.9, Nanky lamented that VGMA left him alone after winning the Unsung Award.
He shared his opinion that VGMA should have promoted his music and supported him till he makes waves in the Ghana music industry.
“After winning that thing [Unsung Award], it should have been that okay, he has won the Unsung Category this year, we[VGMA] have to push him, till he [Nanky] blows before we get back to whoever wins the next. But it wasn’t like that I was left alone with my team.
Speaking further he said, “It was cool but wasn’t cool for me, because of the pressure. I won the Unsung category, which is the whole of Ghana. So there has to be an agenda for whoever wins the Unsung category because it’s obvious you are not that blown. So they could help you get to that level. So every year we can blow one artist from the underground”.
