Mr. Drew set the record straight that his departure from Highly Spiritual Record Label has not affected his music career and explained that record labels also benefit from artists.
Earlier this month, Ghanaian artiste Mr.Drew departed from his maiden record label, where he had a five-year contract with the record label.
However, the five-year contract was exhausted, and the record label proposed that he renew the contract. Unfortunately for the record label, Mr. Drew has already made his decision to part ways in order to try something new in his music career.
In an interview, the ‘E Choke’ hitmaker officially announced his departure from the Highly Spiritual Record Label and throws more light on why he left.
“Everyone desires growth; you can’t remain in one place for an extended period. It’s about moving forward.” He said.
In a recent interview with Elsie Lamar on Talkertainment, the ‘Tomorrow’ hitmaker shared how his departure has impacted his music career and how record labels benefit from artists.
According to him, record labels do not favor artists, because artists are signed to a record label to work and at the end of the day when there is a profit, record label also have their proportion of the profit.
In the interview, the host, Elsie Lamar raised the notion that when an artist departs from his record label there is a high probability that the artist will struggle in his or her music career. And that has been the trend, especially in Ghana.
She went further and asked Mr. Drew if he is also on that same trend.
“First of all I don’t know who started that myth, but I don’t think is totally true. Usually, it’s based on what your agreement with the label was. Somebody is on the label to work is work, don’t see it as the label is giving you the platform or the opportunity, you are there to work because when the money starts coming the label is going to take their cut. So it’s not like someone is gracing you, that is why there are contracts, and when your contract ends you move on”. He said.
He also added that he has a team of his own because he as an individual is a brand on its own.
