Afua Asantewaa Aduonum recently made headlines not only for her remarkable feat in breaking the Guinness World Record for the longest singing marathon but also for an unexpected confession during her ambitious endeavor.
In her pursuit to secure the prestigious Guinness World Record, Afua Asantewaa embarked on a singing marathon aiming to surpass the previous record of 105 hours set in 2012 by Sunil Waghmare.
Starting on December 24, 2023, and scheduled to conclude on December 27, 2023, her marathon held the attention of many. Little did she anticipate that her admiration for Highlife artist Kuami Eugene would play an unforeseen role in her attempt.
During the marathon, to her delightful surprise and unforeseen distraction, Kuami Eugene, the beloved Highlife sensation, made a surprise appearance at the event center.
Afua Asantewaa candidly disclosed that her crush on the artist caused an unexpected disruption in her performance. She humorously shared that Eugene’s presence led her to forget the lyrics to his part in the song ‘Asuoden,’ a track by Sista Afia featuring Kuami Eugene.
“Kuami Eugene is my crush. That guy came, and I forgot my lyrics. I said to myself that he was going to disturb me with his presence. If Guinness people do not give me the record, it is Kuami Eugene,” she amusingly expressed during an interview with Hitz FM, attributing her momentary lapse in lyrics to her admiration for the artist.
In a lighthearted tone, Afua Asantewaa further elaborated on the unexpected impact of Eugene’s appearance, stating, “My husband knows I have a crush on him, so when he got there, I said he shouldn’t have been there. I couldn’t remember his lyrics to ‘Asuoden.’ I just like him.”
Despite the amusing distraction, Afua showcased remarkable resilience and determination throughout her singing marathon. On December 29, 2023, she successfully concluded her awe-inspiring attempt, surpassing the previous record by an astounding margin, achieving a commendable 126 hours and 52 minutes of continuous singing.
