It’s that time of the month again, and you’re welcoming your monthly flow (period). Having your period as a woman is one of the most comfortable and painful moments in one’s life.
It comes with a lot of side effects, such as menstrual cramps, puking, weakness, irritability, moodiness, oversleeping, and even having less sleep.
Menstruating as a woman can be painful sometimes. Notwithstanding, not all women feel pain or cramps during menstruation.
Most women may also have lots and lots of cravings that could be beyond their control. Some of which include the intake of extremely cold or semi-cold water.
Studies have taught us that there are dangers to taking in cold water during your period, which I have listed below.
4 Dangers of Taking In Cold Water During Menstruation.
1. Causes headaches:
Drinking cold water can cool down many nerves in your spine, which affects the brain and leads to severe headaches. This makes you feel uneasy while on your period. Having menstrual cramps is a painful event, and having headaches makes it worse. It makes you feel uncomfortable and even make you want to puke. Some women find that being on their period is extremely stressful and unbearable for them.
2. Slows digestion:
During menstrual period, the body needs a lot of energy to aid in blood flow. The intake of cold water can cause a slowdown in digestion, hence making. The body needs some important nutrients and extra energy to help with the regulation of the flow of blood. The extra energy is actually necessary for proper digestion and absorption of the nutrients, which is hindered. This makes the body fight for strength during your period.
3. Decrease heart rate:
The heart, as we all know, is responsible for the pumping of blood into the veins: for the body to function well. Drinking cold water decreases the heart rate and stimulates the vagal nerves, which control the functioning of the body. As the vagal nerve is directly affected by the low temperature of the water, the heart rate eventually slows down, preventing it from pumping more blood for easy menstrual flow.
4. Strains your body:
After drinking cold water, your body goes into a survival mood, which makes it hard to gain it’s body temperature within some time. According to Dr. Hame, “The intake of cold water decreases the time it takes your muscles to recover after any activities.” Therefore, drinking cold water while on your period will only slow the flow of blood, thereby making you very weak for movement and any engaging activities.
Conclusion
In conclusion, drinking cold water during your menstruation period is dangerous to your health, and it is advisable to avoid it. Water is life: drink more water during your period. It helps reduce some pain and stress.
