On Saturday,Uberannounced that it will revoke trip cancellation fees. In an email sent to customers on Saturday, the tech giants stated that the fee discourages passengers from taking an extra trip with them, so removing those charges will encourage passengers to take more trips. This decision, they believe, will have “minimal impact on drivers.”
“Our data shows that cancellation fees often dissuade you from taking a trip; removing them will have a minimal impact on drivers’ overall earnings while encouraging you to take more trips,” Uber said in a statement.
Previously, if you canceled a trip after being matched with a driver, you had to pay a GHS 5.00 fine to compensate the driver for the effort and time spent getting to your location.
Uber is now encouraging drivers to “choose to cancel trips at no penalty to them” when passengers are more than five minutes late for pickup.
“At Uber, we are always monitoring the market dynamics and fare structures to ensure our app continues to be the best option for you,” they further stated.
