Whatsapp details what will happen to you on May 15 if you haven’t accepted their new policy and terms. Whatsapp announced its new privacy policy somewhere around February but received serious backlash from its users all over the world. Because of that, WhatsApp had to suspend imposing these terms and rather give time to their users to read and accept the policy at their own pace. In doing so, WhatsApp will display a banner in their app, to better explain the terms. But what will happen to users who haven’t accepted the terms before the May 15 deadline?

Users who have still not accepted the terms will see their WhatsApp lose some functionalities slowly. In an email sent to one of its merchant partners, cited by Techcrunch.com, WhatsApp said “it will slowly ask such users to comply with the new terms to have full functionality of WhatsApp starting on May 15”. You might have the ability to make calls, but you won’t be able to text anyone on Whatsapp.

The fear of users for accepting these terms is to do with WhatsApp sharing private chats with its parent company Facebook. Messages between people, on the other hand, are encrypted from end to end, so that only the sender and receiver can see the contents, Whatsapp has assured its users. The new policy applies to messages sent to businesses that may be saved on Facebook servers and whose data may be used for advertising purposes. Since 2016, Whatsapp has shared some personal information, such as phone numbers with Facebook.
