Please be informed that MTN as a payment option on Google PlayStore has been disabled and it’s currently not working. I will update you as soon as MOMO billing becomes available on Google Playstore again.
As technology advances, so do our day-to-day activities become simple and faster. A few years ago, when we downloaded mobile apps or games on Google Play Store, we would only use them for the intended purposes and that is all.
These days, the mobile apps and games we download are sophisticated & different; they include in-app ads, purchases, premium subscriptions, etc.
Take a game I love playing like PES Mobile, Candy Crush, or PubG Battleground for example, although you can continue playing the game without buying in-game characters and gems; it is all fun when you level up and brag to your friends about the new levels you acquired after purchasing an in-game character or gem.
Technology advancement has made it possible to do this by allowing us to link our bank to games and apps we love. This will help us make payments whenever we want to buy or renew in-app or game subscriptions.
In Ghana, you can add your card to your Google Play account to make in-game or app purchases easy.
Meanwhile, due to a large chunk of the population being unbanked, it becomes difficult to buy apps or game characters when only bank cards are the required means of payment for Google play services.
However, since 2018, Mtn mobile money has fully been integrated with Google payments to facilitate purchases for Google Play products and services via Momo.
It, therefore, makes it possible to pay for premium app subscriptions and buy in-game characters and gems with MTN mobile money.
In today’s tutorial, we will look at how to link and pay for Google play apps with your MOMO.
Requirements to link your Momo with the Google Play service
-Make sure you are in the right Google Play account
-Make sure your sim card is registered with Mobile money
How to add your MTN Mobile Money(Momo) to Google Play Store
- Open Google Playstore App on your Android phone and tap the profile icon.
- A menu will open; select Payments and Subscriptions.
- Select Payment methods.
- Choose “use MTN Momo billing”.
- Wait for the SMS confirmation.
- Fill in your name, street address, and city.
- Click save to complete linking your google play to your MTN momo.
How to buy apps or games with Mobile money on Google Play Store
- Select the app you want to buy and select buy.
- Choose Mobile money
- Enter Pin to verify payment
- Download app after payment has been confirmed.
You can now buy apps and games, make in-app purchases, renew app subscriptions and complete any payment-related stuff on Google Play Store once your Mobile money account has been linked.
Kindly note that you can link only one account at a time; hence you should be sure about the Google account you select.
What if you can’t access Playstore
For those Android users who can’t access Google Play at the moment, they can link their Google accounts with mobile money by going tosettingson their android phone>>select account preferences>>add payment methods.
Wrapping up
It is refreshing to see Ghanaians can also purchase apps and games from Playstore. However, we hope to see apple bringing mobile money payments to Appstore soon; to help us purchase apps/ games with mobile money.
