How to Apply and Renew your Ghana Passport online 2022

The once-upon-a-time tedious process of applying for and renewing your Ghana passport has now been replaced with a simple yet swift process. 

These days; there is no need to join long queues to apply for or renew your passport. It is much simpler now; All you need now is to visit the passport applications portal.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration announced the new online passport application service in 2017; since then, the online process has been the only means to apply for or renew your passport in Ghana.

Not only is this service fast, but all other payments have been integrated into a single web application for you to use easily. You can even buy forms with mobile money without necessarily visiting your bank to purchase passport application forms like in the olden days. 

It is now secure as you do not need to give your information to any “middle man” for him to process your application.

What are the types of Ghana passport application forms and their prices?

There are only two types of passport application forms in Ghana. The Expedited application; also known as the “express” application and the standard application. 

The “express” application takes a little time to process(max three(3) weeks) than the standard application.

Both applications have options to select whether 32 or 48 booklet pages.

Requirements: Things you need to apply for your Ghana Biometric passport

  1. Birth Certificate(Proof of Ghanaian citizenship)
  2. Documents to support Identity such as Driver’s Licence, National ID card
  3. Proof of Profession (An introductory letter from the applicant’s employer that is if the applicant is currently employed or a work ID card that bears applicant’s name, organisation’s name and position. A student ID if the applicant is currently in school. Homemakers/housewives and applicants that are unemployed and those in the non-formal sector of employment like mechanics, hairdressers seamstresses, traders etc. do not need proof. Registered Business Owners and self-employed applicants must produce their business registration certificate as proof)

How to apply for Ghana passport online

Time needed: 15 minutes

  1. Visit the Ghana.Gov portal and create an account.

    Complete the signup process by submitting the OTP confirmation.

  2. Start a new passport application.

    After successfully signing in to the passport application portal, you need to click start a new application to begin. You will be redirected to the payment section to purchase an application form; choose a payment method to complete. You will have to wait for 5-10 mins to validate your payment. An application will be sent to your dashboard to begin the process. It can be found in “My Applications”.

  3. Fill out the application form to complete your passport application forms.

    This is where you begin to fill in the passport application with all the correct details. Make sure all information given is accurate and sign the declaration form to confirm

  4. Book an appointment date for your passport application interview.

    The final stages of your passport application require you to book an appointment date and choose the center for your final application review. Your biometric data will be taken when you visit the PAC(Passport Application Center). Print your application when going

  5. Visit the PAC.

    Once your forms are ready and printed out, visit the passport application center on your chosen date to submit your documents, your biometrics will be finally taken.

  6. Wait for your passport application to be ready.

    Within 3-6 weeks, your passport should be ready. You will receive a text message to come for your passport.

  1. First page and bio-data page with picture and information page
  2. Valid Visa if the applicant has any in Old Passport
  3. Last page
  4. Proof of Profession if changed

How to renew passport application online

  1. Follow the method above to create an application with Ghana.Gov visit the Ghana passport application dashboard at x. Complete the signup process by submitting the OTP confirmation.
  2. Buy your Passport Application forms and complete your payment
  3. visit your passport application dashboard and select passport renewal.
  4. Complete the forms and choose an appointment date.
  5. A new date for your renewal will be communicated to you.
