In recent news, a new president has been appointed in Senegal. A man named Bassirou Diomaye Faye was appointed president.
This young man is said to be 44 years of age and the youngest Senegal president.
He was sworn in power on April 2, 2024, as the presidential candidate after winning a 54 percent vote count from the people of Senegal.
The Lift Wing Pan-Africanists came out as the winner of the election held on March 24, 2024, in Senegal. Which has made him the youngest President of Senegal.
Prior to the election, Bassirou Diomaye Faye was released from prison less than two weeks before the election took place.
He made promises on how to eradicate corruption and make Senegal a better place to live during one of his campaigns. He also made promises to make good use of and manage the natural resources of Senegal.
The election held wasn’t an easy one. Many young people lost their lives as a result of fights and misunderstandings.
The camping manager of Faye said, “This is a day of celebration for us, even if we have lost young people killed during the demonstrations.”
He deemed it to be a success on their side after Faye won the election.
Bassirou Diomaye Faye is seen as a promising young man who has the people of Senegal at heart and is ready to go all out for them.
In a speech after he won, he said, “Before God and the Senegalese nation, I swear to faithfully fulfill the office of president of the Republic of Senegal,”
“I promise to scrupulously observe the provisions of the constitution and the laws” and defend “the integrity of the territory and national independence and to spare no effort to achieve African unity”. He said.
The young, newly elected president is a practicing Muslim married to two wives with four adorable children. He has a home in Dakar and owns land in his hometown and outside the town.
Bissirou Diomaye Faye, who was once a former tax inspector, becomes Senegal’s fifth president since independence from France in 1960 and the first to admit to a polygamous marriage.
He has a network of almost $6,600. He made this transparent and summoned the rest of the candidates to do the same.
Faye, who has been elected to power, has to perform his presidential duties by providing job opportunities for the youth of Senegal and also ensuring sustainable development in the country.
He is also supposed to make sure he fulfills his promises of abiding by the laws of the country and protecting the rights of every individual in the country.
Faye pledged to bring military-run Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger back into the fold of the regional Economic Community of West African States (Ecowas).
Congratulations to the youngest newly elected president of Senegal. He has indeed made the youth of Senegal proud and happy.
They are counting on him to bring positive changes to the country, eradicate corruption, and ignite integrity in the people of Senegal.
