Consistency is the main factor that keeps every club winning trophies. Coaches play a vital role in the success of clubs, which makes it imperative to make quick decisions when a coach is not consistent.
There are moments when clubs change coaches repeatedly which disrupt the performance of the club, making it difficult to win trophies. This is mainly because every coach has his own tactics and approaches, which significantly affect the player’s performance.
This follows Chelsea’s 2022-2023 season which started with the sack of Thomas Tuchel who won the Champions League, European Super League, and Club World Cup with them. The dismissal came as a surprise to the football world as it was least expected from the side of the board of Chelsea.
The main reason may have been the change in policy with regard to signings, that new owner Todd Boehly brought. Chelsea sacked Thomas Tuchel and replaced him with Graham Potter. Fans were highly disappointed and voiced their opinions but couldn’t stop the decision made by the board.
Graham Potter joined Chelsea from Brighton amidst the state of uncertainty, with the hope of bringing a fresh perspective to the squad. Fans became optimistic that he would perform well and will help Chelsea win more trophies including the Premier League. Which has been in the possession of Manchester City for the past three seasons.
It was rather unfortunate that Graham also started facing difficulties at the club, many new players were signed under the management of Graham Potter, which includes; Jao Felix, Enzo Fernandez, and Mykhaylo Mudryk just to name a few.
However, upon all signing the situation was still the same, the performance of the team kept on deteriorating, which then led to the dismissal of Graham Potter.
The amusement of the public did not end there, as the club made a surprising decision of bringing back Frank Lampard, who has been their head coach in the previous season and couldn’t perform well in the tactical approach, hence was unable to help the team to meet the expectation of fans.
The players on the other hand faced many challenges since they adopted to new tactical approach and philosophy from the different coaches.
On 28th May 2023, Mauricio Pochettino, the former Paris Saint-German head coach, was officially announced as the head coach of Chelsea. His contract is valid till June 2026, and he will be starting his work next week.
Will he be able to meet the expectations of the owners, board, and fans of Chelseas? We will get an answer to this question next season.
