Deborah Seyram Adablah, the young woman who sued her “sugar daddy” for allegedly breaking their agreement to support her, plans to appeal after the High Court in Accra dismissed the case on November 28, 2023.

Justice John Bosco Nabarese of the High Court in Accra, in his ruling, recognized the moral issues in the relationship between Adablah and the former Chief Finance Officer of a bank. However, he stated that there was no reasonable cause of action in Seyram Adablah’s lawsuit.

The court strongly emphasized its refusal to endorse a relationship based on immoral actions, stating, “You cannot recover the price of something you have committed in an immoral act.” Deborah Seyram Adablah was also instructed to pay a cost of GH¢10,000.

This decision followed a request by the ex-CFO to have Adablah’s case dismissed. While Deborah Seyram Adablah avoided media interviews after the court ruling, she used her TikTok page to express her determination to continue the legal battle: “My lawyer will apply for the ruling and apply the law accordingly. It seems this case is not going to be over soon.”

Ms. Adablah filed a lawsuit on January 23, 2023, alleging that her “sugar daddy,” Mr. Ernest Kwasi Nimako, failed to fulfill several promises. These promises included buying her a car, covering her accommodation for three years, providing a monthly stipend of GH¢3,000, marrying her after divorcing his wife, and giving her a lump sum for starting a business.

According to Adablah, Mr. Nimako took back the car after one year and paid for only one year of accommodation, not the promised three years.

In her court plea, Ms. Adablah requested the court to order Mr. Nimako to transfer the car’s title to her, return the vehicle, fulfill the promised lump sum for starting a business, pay the outstanding two years’ accommodation, and cover her medical expenses resulting from advised family planning treatment by the defendant.

The bank’s lawyers sought a cost of GH¢50,000, but Ms. Adablah’s lawyer requested a reduction to GH¢5,000.
