The recent health challenges faced by renowned Nigerian actor Mr. Ibu have not only sparked concern among fans and well-wishers but have also triggered a contentious struggle within his family.
As the actor battles his ongoing health issues, a heated dispute has arisen regarding control over the donation account set up by his family to cover the escalating medical expenses, leading to conflicting claims and accusations among family members.
Mr. Ibu’s health challenge has been a cause of widespread discussion, particularly after undergoing treatment that necessitated the amputation of one of his legs. In response to the mounting medical bills, his family took the initiative to create a donation account to gather financial support from the actor’s fanbase and well-wishers.
However, what started as a noble effort to aid in the actor’s recovery has turned into a publicized family dispute.
Stella, Mr. Ibu’s second wife, took to social media, specifically Instagram, to voice her grievances, alleging that Jasmine, Mr. Ibu’s adopted daughter, had unjustly taken control of the donation account.
Stella claimed that she was deliberately excluded from accessing the main bank account, accusing Jasmine of manipulation and secrecy in managing the funds.
“I do not have access to the main Access bank account where people make donations. It is being secretly controlled by Jazmine yet she is cooking up all kinds of lies and propaganda against me to keep absolute control of that account. How she manipulated her way and took control of that account is a story for another day.” She stated.
The situation took a more contentious turn when Mr. Ibu’s son, Daniel Okafor, stepped forward to counter Stella’s claims. Speaking to Punch Newspaper, Daniel refuted Stella’s allegations, asserting that he, in fact, holds control over the bank account designated for his father’s medical expenses.
He clarified that Jasmine does not have access to the account and emphasized his role as the signatory and next of kin, dismissing Stella’s assertions as baseless.
In his statement to the media, Daniel Okafor provided clarity on the ownership and management of the donation account. He affirmed his position as Mr. Ibu’s son and his responsibility as the authorized individual handling the account. Moreover, Daniel highlighted his relationship with Jasmine, labeling her as his stepmother and reinforcing the absence of truth in Stella’s claims.
“My name is Daniel Okafor; I am John Okafor’s second son. There is no truth in what Stella Maris has been sharing online. Jasmine does not have access to that account; I have access to it. I am the signatory to the account and my father’s next of kin. She is my stepmother. My mother is not around at the moment.” He said to the media.
Amidst the conflicting narratives, many also voiced their opinions with many lambasting Stella, the second wife of Mr. Ibu that while her husband is facing the worst moment of his life she is rather concentrating on having authority over the account.
