Ghanaian Highlife and 2020 VGMA Artist of the Year winner Kuame Eugene, in a recent interview, pours out his suggestion on how to make the music industry in Ghana thrive and make waves globally.
For the past months, the question that always pops up in the Ghana music industry is how to make the industry thrive in comparison to other music industries of other countries like Nigerians to be specific.
Most artists have expressed their opinions on how to make the music industry grow, including the likes of Samini who emphasizes that investors in Ghana could help make the industry grow but whenever artists approach them, they see it unnecessary to invest in something they don’t place value on it.
Meanwhile, Kuame Eugene voices his opinion by emphasizing the fact that the Government should implement a policy or a legislature that urges DJs to play 70 percent of Ghanaian music on Radio stations, TV stations, and any other platforms.
Speaking further he said, this should be a deliberate attempt by the government in order to make it. The “Monica” hitmaker had no doubt that if this is done effectively, it will help the music industry in Ghana thrive to a different level.
“Locally, maybe the entertainment side of politics in this country, we need to sit down and make a deliberate effort that, let’s change this thing, this amount of airplay, let’s come together, let’s make this money. And deliberately change this thing. If not, statistically it won’t work.
“We have to deliberately make it an effort that 2024 DJs play 70 percent of Ghanaian music,” He said.
