The music industry is constantly evolving, with artists pushing the boundaries of creativity and innovation. One of the vibrant groups in Ghana’s music industry has introduced a new genre “GhanaPiona” with the aim of offering a fresh perspective.
In an interview with Andy Dosty, the group explained the genre and what comes with the genre. They explained that the genre is mainly the fusion of old and new genres on piano. According to them, “GhanaPiano” simply means Ghanaian sounds used on the piano which is now the accepted sound in the music industry.
“GhanaPiono” is a new genre we are trying to introduce, and it is more like the fusion between the old and the new on piano, the reason why it piano is because piano is now what the world is getting from Africa, it was first afrobeat but now is piano. And the reason why it’s Ghana is Ghanaian sounds fixed on piano, that is why you are getting the word “Ghanapiono”. They explained.
In their explanation, they stated that the other reason for coming up with the genre is to get updated with what is happening in the music industry.
“We are trying to introduce this now because we want people to woke about what is updated, about what is new, music is dynamic, it’s moving so fast. A lot of us even don’t know what is happening, even those who are in the updated world don’t know what is happening with music”.
DopeNation’s work challenges both themselves and their audience by introducing fresh and distinctive sound, encouraging listeners to open their ears to new possibilities and embrace new perspectives.
The group’s invention of the genre serves as a catalyst for innovation, pushing the boundaries of what is considered possible within the music industry. Their work has the potential to reshape the industry landscape and pave the way for future creative explorations.
