Google Maps will let you draw new or missing roads

Have you ever been stranded due to a wrong or missing road on Google Maps? In their new map editing feature, Google Maps promises a better map experience by allowing you to draw missing roads directly on the map. Google believes that this new feature will improve service coverage in areas where Google’s data sources are insufficient.

“This feature is rolling out over the coming months in more than 80 countries where people can already report road updates on Google Maps”, a statement by google read.

At the moment you cant do much when you want to add a missing road. If you see a missing road and you want to edit it, you will have to drop a pin at where the road should be, and submit the name of the missing road to google.

Google will still monitor your corrections and verify whether it is accurate. This will guide other users of the road to make accurate decisions on where to pass. Google emphasizes that they don’t want any bike path to be edited and named as road after you have submitted the edit. This is will protect other users on maps. The edit will be subject to a seven days review by Google.

How to do it according to Google

In a blog post by Google, “When you see a road missing on maps.google.com, simply click on the side menu button, go to “Edit the map”, and select “Missing Road.” Now the power to map is in your hands! Add missing roads by drawing lines, quickly rename roads, change road directionality, and realign or delete incorrect roads”.
