Digital satellite television, widely known as DStv, is a Sub-Saharan African direct broadcast satellite owned by MultiChoice. Since its inception in 1995, its sole aim has been to provide its subscribers with multiple channels and television services. They broadcast mainly using their decoders, but they also have other packages that do not require the use of a decoder, like the DStv mobile app and the DStv online option.
The DStv mobile app is perfect for those who are usually on the move as it enables you to watch your favorite television series on your phone, while the DStv online option is for those who cannot afford the decoder.
Although the DStv decoder is quite expensive compared to other decoders, the majority of the Ghanaian population has taken a liking to it, as it is the most reliable way to access a variety of tv channels. The DStv decoder comes with a range of affordable packages and low subscription plans for its users. The two main decoder types come with varying prices depending on whether the team of professionals from DStv is going to be setting up and installing for you or not.
The number and type of channels you would get access to are dependent on your subscription plan. DStv also has the DStv NOW service; an application and website that grants users access to live TV, DStv catch up, DStv kids, and many more.
What is DSTV Explorer Decoder
The first and most sophisticated decoder that DStv produces is the DStv Explora decoder. It costs 500 Ghana cedis without installation and about 600 – 900 Ghana cedis with installation and dish. Its features are advanced and give the viewer the flexibility to watch whatever, whenever. There are options to either rewind or pause and resume a program that is currently on show.
There is also the option to download your favourite series straight to your Explora, which has about 220 hours of recording space available for you. Its high-definition viewing is also top-notch as it gives you the actual feel of the movie.
DSTV Zapper Decoder
The DStv Zapper decoder is relatively lower and costs about 130-140 Ghana cedis without installation and 190-210 Ghana cedis with decoder, dish kit, and 1-2 months access. It comes with a wide range of television channels and has the parental control feature, enabling parents or guardians to restrict the type of channels their kids can access.
The prices of decoders mentioned above vary depending on where it is being bought. After payments are made, it takes about 1-2 working days for installation and setup to be complete.
DSTV Ghana Packages
Due to the changing preference of individuals and businesses for the TV shows and sports programs they want to watch, DStv has a number of packages from which users can choose from. Leading to various entertainment worlds and discovery channels, these packages come with their individual prices and components as shown below:
The latest DStv package available is the XtraView package. This package gives subscribers the option to watch different live shows on different television sets in separate rooms at the same time. For this package, you pay only one subscription fee plus an access fee for each XtraView connection. The base decoder must be an Explora, then the others linked to it could be of any type. The XtraView package takes to at most three connections.
