For the past few months, we have been hearing a lot of things about 5G and its supposed impact on the world. Some even claim it was the original cause of the popular COVID-19 outbreak. A lot of speculations had been and are still being made about this 5G technology even without the proper understanding. That being said, what exactly is 5G?
The term 5G simply refers to the fifth generation of mobile networks which follows after its past relatives; 4G, 3G, 2G, and 1G, where 1G was the first generation. The first generation started in the 1980s and was delivered using analog voices. The second generation came about in the 1990s and that’s when digital voices such as Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) were introduced. In the time of the third generation, which came about in the early 2000s, mobile data was introduced and started gaining a lot of attention in society. The 2010s saw the birth of the fourth generation with 4G and 4G LTE and served as an introductory step into the time of mobile broadband and now 5G is here with even more improvements.
It has a more capable and unified aerial interface and has been designed to enable the next generation user to deliver more services due to its extended capacity. 5G has universally been accepted as the new world standard when it comes to a wireless connection. 5G has been known to enable a new kind of network that is designed to basically connect everyone and everything together.
This 5G technology is aimed at delivering higher multi-Gbps top data speed with super lower latency, higher reliability, increased network capacity, increased availability, and a more wholesome or uniform user experience to users. This will increase performance, bring about more efficiency and even connect new industries together.
With the increase in internet speed, superior reliability, and almost zero latency, this new 5G will broaden the ecosystem into even newer planes by impacting every industry, both major and minor. It will make transportation safer and more reliable, improve remote healthcare, and even make precision agriculture a reality.
5G is the future of mobile networks and all Ghanaians are encouraged to embrace it so that we can all benefit from its advantages. It’s time to say goodbye to lagging YouTube or TikTok videos.
