Facebook in trouble Again, as information of 533 million users leaks online

The personal data of 533 million Facebook users have surfaced online again. This data can be accessed with a low level of hacking and free to anyone who accesses it. This data includes personal information of Facebook users such as Phone numbers, Facebook IDs, birthdates, bios, full names, locations, and email addresses. This breach was reported by Alon gal, the CTO of cybercrime intelligence organization Hudson Rock on his Twitter page. Business insider also cited how they have reviewed and verified these leaked records of Facebook users.

“The exposed data includes personal information of over 533 million Facebook users from 106 countries, including over 32 million records on the users in the US, 11 million on users in the UK, and 6 million on users in India,” revealed by Business Insider. “It includes their phone numbers, Facebook IDs, fullnames, locations, birthdates, bios, and – in some cases – email addresses.”

What the data breach means for you

Another database expert Troy Hunt who is the creator have i been pawned, an online cybersecurity tool used to search for data breaches has also had his say about this data breach. He believes nothing shows that the data collected isn’t legit, hence he emphasized how particularly the phone numbers nicely arranged according to countries could be useful to hackers to send SPAMs to these phone numbers. Hunt has uploaded all the data on his website, Have i been pawned, you could check to see whether your personal data was also compromised.

This isn’t the first time Facebook’s data has been compromised. Facebook experienced a similar breach in January of this year, but the database containing the compromised data was sold using an automated Telegram bot. The only difference this time is that anyone can obtain the data for free.
