Suicide out of depression is on the rise, and people are losing their loved ones to it with each passing day. According to Google, depression is defined as a common mental disorder caused by persistent sadness and a lack of pleasure. It may also be caused by overthinking, low self-esteem, a lack of attention, and other contributing factors.
Study says 3.8% of the population, including 5% of adults (4% of males and 6% of women) and 5.7% of people over 60 years, are thought to suffer from depression. There are 280 million depressed people worldwide. Women are roughly 50% more likely than men to experience depression. In the world, depression affects more than 10% of expectant and new mothers. Every year, suicide claims more than 700,000 lives. Suicide is the fourth-most common cause of death among those aged 15 to 29.
We might not be able to fight against depression, but here are some steps to help you whenever you’re feeling depressed.
- Stop Overthinking;First and foremost, depression is mostly caused by overthinking, especially when you look down upon yourself or whenever you think you have low self-esteem. So all you need to do is stop overthinking yourself to death. Look at yourself and see how great you are. Eradicate the thought of low self-esteem and think positively about yourself.
- Talk to someone;Sometimes, talking to someone about our problems becomes so discouraging. Therefore, when it comes to talking to someone about your situation, it should be someone you trust and can rely on. Someone who is ready to go through that phase of your life with you and wouldn’t go around telling people about your situation. Just make sure you confide in someone because a problem shared is half solved.
- Socialize; When you’re feeling depressed, don’t be in your closet all alone. Always make sure you don’t isolate yourself. It helps you weigh down your problems and be self-conscious. Being around people breeds happiness, and because you’ll be having suicidal thoughts, the people around you will always make sure they monitor you to be able to stop you whenever you try to take that action.
- Journaling;Maybe you’re the shy type who cannot go to people and tell them about what you’re going through or what is running through your head, so writing short notes will actually help people determine what is really making you depressed and can offer you some shoulders to lie on.
- Remember you’re important;Always remember you’re someone’s motivation. You’re important to someone. You’re loved and cherished, and you can’t allow depression to ruin your life for you. Think of the number of people you’re going to hurt when you take this action.
In conclusion, depression is not a good thing. Make sure you talk to someone if you feel depressed. Share your pain and let someone help you because death is not an option to overcome your depression.
