Inasmuch as some people don’t like to admit it, technology is taking over the world. Technology is not the enemy as many people claim, ignorance and our willingness to learn and adapt is our predominant enemy.

A tech community is just like any other community. A community is simply a group of people who have a common interest or objective that they are working towards.

As the saying goes, “your network is your net worth” and what this means is that making connections is very important if you want to be worthy in life. With that being said, let’s now jump into the four (4) key importance of joining a tech community in Ghana.

1. Joining A Tech Community Gives You Exposure

Many great people are not able to be exposed to other individuals due to several factors. When you join a tech community, you get to meet a lot of people who are ahead of you in whatever you are doing.

With this, you get to be exposed to such individuals, what they do and how you can also work hard to get to where they are. In a tech community, there is nothing like a lead and a servant, everyone comes down to a point where they co-exist with everyone else.

You get to learn directly from other like-minded individuals who are not doing it for the money but for the love of helping their friends and colleagues to also reach the point they have gotten to.

2. Joining A Tech Community Helps You Get Access to Exclusive Events

As someone in tech, one thing I can assure you is that going to exclusive events is worth it. Just yesterday, I attended an exclusive tech event and some of the information I am sharing with you today is based on what I got from there.

Mostly, events organized in tech are exclusive and as such involves you to know someone or someone to know you. Through that, you can even get free passes to paid events. For example, the Google Developers Group organizes events each year and the knowledge you will acquire is not like the ordinary events.

3. Joining A Tech Community Helps You Get a Job

Undoubtedly, this is the best benefit you enjoy from joining a tech community. According to research, the majority of jobs in the world are earned from referrals and recommendations. This is how most people in the tech community get access to jobs.

For example, if you are a recruiter and your co-worker refers someone to you, you have some level of assurance that the person can get the job done rather than reading through several CVs. In the tech community, most people refer jobs to others who can get the job done.

4. Joining A Tech Community Keeps You Updated on The Latest Industry Standards

As I said earlier, technology is a very fast-moving industry and for you to be in the loop you must always stay updated on what is going on. If you happen to be in a tech community, whenever there is a new update, you will be informed on what to do.

For example, a few years ago Figma wasn’t really a big thing in the UX/UI industry but now if you are a UX/UI designer and you are not proficient in Figma then you are going down the wrong road. Join a community and you will not have to worry about what to do when these times come.
