Health benefits of Kola Nuts

Kola Nuts are used to make many kinds of “cola” soft drinks. The kola’s thick-shelled fruit contains six or seven of the nuts.

KOLA NUT is the seed of a tall ever green tree that grows wild in West Africa. Kola trees are cultivated in the West Indies, in tropical areas of South America, and in Asia.It also has a lot of health benefits.Each fruit born by the tree contains several fleshy red or white kola nuts.

They are shaped like horse chestnuts and are usually

1 to 2 inches across at the widest part. Kola nuts are used in making soft drinks and medicines. They contain small amounts of the stimulants caffeine and theo-bromine. 

Many Africans chew these nuts. They call them guru, goora, and bissey nuts.

These are some of the health benefits of Kola nut.

Cola nut is used for short-term relief of fatigue, depression, chronic fatigue syndrome, lack of normal muscle tone (atony), exhaustion, a type of diarrhea called atonic diarrhea, weight loss, and headaches. In foods and beverages, cola nut is used as a flavoring ingredient.

Kola nuts has a bitter flavor and contains caffeine. The nut is a nervous system stimulant and is chewed in many West African countries, in both private and social settings. It is often used ceremonially, presented to chiefs or guests.

Throughout history, kola nuts have been planted on graves as part of various rituals. Laborers in many countries also grow kola nuts in efforts to fight fatigue and hunger, while Brazilians and people of the West Indies use the nut as a remedy for hangovers, intoxication, and diarrhea.

In folk medicine, kola nuts are considered useful for aiding digestion when ground and mixed with honey, and are used as a remedy for coughs.
