Every day, new smartphones are released, and we as human beings are tempted to upgrade from our old devices to new ones. When this happens, we sometimes don’t know what to do with the old device especially when we have enough money to buy the new one without selling the old one.
Due to issues of global warming and other climatic issues, it is, therefore ‘wise’ and healthy for you to dispose of your old phone safely in other not to add to the ongoing issues. What you may be wondering is “why do I need you to tell me how to do that?”.
Well, I am not wiser than you, but I am only going to make recommendations on some of the ways that most people with expertise have deemed safe for both you and the environment. So, without wasting much time, let’s jump right into it.
Before you even decide on how to safely dispose of your old phone, you must make sure that all your files and documents are erased from the phone. This is important because if your phone lands in the wrong hands with your information, you could have a serious problem.
Most devices have the factory reset option, if your device supports this feature make sure to use it. This method will completely reset all things to normal and erase all the files on your device. From there, you can decide on what to do next.
We all have some friends or relatives who usually have issues when it comes to buying new phones. For people like that, instead of throwing away your old devices or keeping them unused in your drawer, you can gift them to them.
Even though this will not give you anything, the person will always be happy that you helped. This in return will make you feel happy and proud of yourself.
In this world, no matter how rich you are, you can never have enough money to reject more. So, if you have an old phone sitting there idle, why not sell it for some cool cash?
Now, there are several sites available on the internet for you to sell your devices. For those outside Ghana, eBay is a cool place to do this or Swappa. For those in Ghana, Tonaton and Jiji are one of the best places you can get a buyer for your old phone. Just make sure your device is in a good condition and you are all set.
The environment is the only thing we have and if we choose to save it, the unborn generation will still benefit from our good deeds. The final way to safely dispose of your old phone is by recycling it.
Here, I don’t mean that you should do the recycling yourself. There are several sites available for you to provide your phone to be recycled. Best Buy, Earth911, and Call2Recycle are all some of the sites you can use.
There is a Ghanaian saying which literally translates as what is old to someone is another person’s new thing and so your old phone can be what someone is always praying for. Choose any of the safe methods of disposing of your old phone outlined in this article and let’s together protect ourselves.
