I Wrote “Non Living Thing” But Relinquished Ownership To Sarkodie-Oxlade

Nigerian artist Oxlade recently unveiled an intriguing story surrounding his collaboration with Sarkodie on the hit song “Non-Living Thing,”

The track “Non Living Thing,” a notable hit by Sarkodie featuring Oxlade, swiftly captured the hearts of audiences worldwide, leaving an indelible mark in the music industry within a short space of time.

Sarkodie, in a previous interview, hinted at artists reaching out to collaborate with him during his album preparations, a sentiment echoed by Oxlade’s revelation in a conversation with Andy Dosty on Hitz FM.

Oxlade disclosed that “Non Living Thing” was initially supposed to be on his project. He confessed to creating the song but eventually realized its destiny was with Sarkodie. Despite having written the song, he deeply sensed that it belonged in Sarkodie’s repertoire.

“Non Living” was meant to be a song on my project, it is literally a record I created, and I was like oh no this song is meant for Sark”. He stated.

Speaking further he asserted that certain compositions, although penned by an artist, might not align with their destined path, acknowledging himself merely as a conduit for the song’s creation.

“There are some songs you write and you are just the vessel, at the end of the day it can be that it’s not your song I knew in my heart this song is meant for Sark”.

While Sarkodie was in Lagos promoting his music, Oxlade presented “Non-Living Thing” to Sarkodie and immediately he liked and decided to work on it and added it to his “No Pressure” album.

This decision, as Oxlade expressed, stands as a defining moment in his musical journey, showcasing his belief in the song’s rightful place in Sarkodie’s catalog.

“I performed to him after we did ‘Ooverdose’, at an event he came to Lagos to do his promo, and then I played it to him, and he was like let’s have it. After we shared the video for the next three months the song is one of the biggest songs. That is one of the best moves I have made in my career.” He said.
