Today, Apple has released software updates for its iPhone, adding new features and designs for compatible devices.
Announced at the company’s developer conference in June, iOS 17, adds a much-improved keyboard with autocorrect to let you swear, new standby modes, contact posters, and greater customization.
Here is all you need to know about iOS 17.
Downloads for iOS, updates usually start at UK time (1 pm in New York; 3 am in Sydney). However, the downloads for iOS will be available in Ghana today at 5 p.m. and in Nigeria at 7 p.m. Unlike other manufacturers, all eligible iPhone devices will be able to download and install the update the moment it is released rather than in a staggered fashion.
The eligible iPhone includes the following;
Apple’s keyboard now allows users to learn from manual corrections, reduce typos, and allow the reversal of corrected text. It also predicts and completes full sentences as you type, similar to Google’s Gmail feature. This feature is expected to eliminate “ducking” typos.
Contact posters display your photo, text, and custom colors on recipients’ phones and in their contacts app during calls, allowing you to customize your appearance.
NameDrop allows sharing of contact information with nearby devices. The phone app can automatically transcribe voicemail messages in real-time, preventing spam calls. FaceTime callers can leave video voicemails if the recipient is unavailable. Video calls can be made on a TV using an Apple TV box and an iPhone or iPad’s camera, and animated reactions can be triggered with hand gestures.
Apple has introduced Standby mode, transforming iPhones into smart displays while charging, displaying time, widgets, and photos. The voice assistant can now handle back-to-back requests without saying “hey” each time. Apple Maps now allows offline map access, matching Google Maps’ feature. Safari now has profiles, allowing users to have different bookmarks, settings, sites, and cookies for work and home.
Check-In is a safety feature that allows users to share their location with friends or family, automatically notifying them when they return home and sending information like location and battery life for assistance.
With iOS 17 iPhone users can add widgets, use animated wallpaper, and display live activities on the lock screen.
