Apple’s next iPhone is expected to be released in the third week of September. With only a few weeks until the release of the iPhone 13, rumors about the latest iPhone and its components is heating up. So far, several rumors about the latest iPhone have circulated, highlighting significant changes to the iPhone 13’s camera as well as its battery.
The latest rumors suggest Apple will continue making additional high-end iPhone 13 models(pro & pro max) and the lower-cost iPhone models (mini &13). Hence Apple is expected to launch four(4) different versions of the iPhone 13. Namely: the iPhone 13, iPhone 13 mini, iPhone 13 Pro, and iPhone 13 Pro max. With several reports of the iPhone 12 mini not doing well, Apple plans to continue making the “mini” iPhones with iPhone 13 mini included in the lineup.
Apple is considering making the iPhone 13 slightly faster than the iPhone 12 with the improvement of the A-series processor. The iPhone 13 will be equipped with the A15 chip, which significantly improves CPU and GPU performance, making image processing faster and more energy-efficient compared to the iPhone 12 models with the A14 chips.
Here is what we know and expect from the September Apple event at Apple Park.
The latest iOS, which includes a redesigned interface and several enhancements to the iPhone, might be coming with the iPhone 13. Although Apple released the public beta versions of the iOS 15 last week, it’s still too early to call that the iPhone 13 will feature iOS 15. However, Tim Cook, Apple CEO, announced during the last WWDC21 event in June that the final stable version of iOS 15 will be available in September. Meanwhile, the latest iOS 15 rumor from Cnet suggests iOS 15 is likely to be launched alongside the iPhone 13 in September.
According to Sonny Dickson, a tech reviewer, the iPhone 13 model will have similar dimensions as the iPhone 12 models. The camera on the iPhone 13 is expected to be having a slight bump according to Macworld.
The iPhone 13 will also get a redesigned notch to look smaller when compared to the iPhone 12 models. Multiple reports suggest the new iPhone 13 will feature an under-display Touch ID.
Although Apple officially announced that touch ID will be made available in 2022 iPhone models to work alongside face ID for dual biometric authentication, it is still not clear whether Apple will feature touch ID in the iPhone 13 models.
Currently, there are no rumors that speak on big changes coming to the camera of the new iPhone. The iPhone 13, 13 mini, and 13 Pro will have the same f/1.6, 7-element wide-angle lens as the iPhone 12, according to Ming-Chi Kuo, while the 13 Pro Max will have a 7-element lens with a slightly improved f/1.5 aperture. Kuo also reports that the iPhone 13 series will be getting an ultra-wide lens with autofocus rather than the fixed focus available on the iPhone 12 series. Meanwhile, rumors from Cnet suggest Apple can be finally bringing portrait mode to videos. Apple calls this feature “cinematic video”; it enables you to blur the background of objects when recording a video.
The iPhone 13 will have larger batteries as compared to the iPhone 12 models. Even though larger batteries don’t necessarily mean the new iPhone 13 will last longer. According to MacRumors, the iPhone 13 Pro Max will have a 4352mAh battery, up from 3687mAh in the iPhone 12 Pro Max, while the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Pro will have 3095mAh batteries, up from 2815mAh in the iPhone 12. The iPhone 13 mini is expected to have a 2406mAh battery, up from the iPhone 12 mini’s 2227mAh battery.

So far, no official date has been released by Apple yet. Although the iPhone 12 series launch was moved to October last year because of the pandemic, Wedbush analyst Daniel Ives suggests Apple might go back to its “traditional” September launch. The iPhone 13 series is likely to be released in mid-September. Because there are no significant hardware changes to the iPhone 13, Cnet suggests that the cost of the iPhone 13 series could be the same as the iPhone 12 series. 128gig iPhone 13 pro max might cost $1,099, same as the iPhone 12 pro max or less.
