Ghanaian musician KelvynBoy recently found himself in the middle of a social media storm after celebrating a seemingly Instagram follow from Nigerian artist Kizz Daniel. The backlash he faced highlights the dynamics and expectations within the online community.
Kelvyn Boy‘s excitement was intense when he took to his “X” handle to announce that Kizz Daniel had followed him on Instagram. While it is natural to be thrilled by the recognition of a prominent figure in one’s field, the response to Kelvyn Boy’s celebration was far from what he had expected.
The moment Kelvyn Boy shared his elation, a significant portion of social media users swiftly descended upon the comment section, criticizing him for making a big deal out of what they perceived as a trivial event. Many questioned why he was making so much fuss over a mere follow, suggesting that Kelvyboy himself is of a higher standard than Kizz Daniel and that he should not attach too much importance to such gestures.
“Woke up to this! Whether song happens or not…….I need to let yall know yall made something happen. Moasei hor CRAZZZYY!” He posted on his X handle.
The controversy didn’t end with social media users’ comments. Renowned Ghanaian YouTuber Kojo Sheldon, known for his candid and often humorous takes on various topics, also joined the criticism. He made a comment at the post which exhibited his disapproval of Kelvyn Boy’s celebration, further fueling the debate.
In his comment, he stated “oh c’mon mehn”.
Another X handler @BongoIdeas also commented “This be yawa move. Even top celebs follow normal social users….if not for the fact that you’ve slept on your talent, who’s Kizz Daniel for you to be celebrating his follow in 2023. Have some self-esteem young boy”.
Meanwhile, according to KelvynBoy, he has already posted that he wants to collaborate with Kizz Daniel and that Kizz Daniel following him serves as an assurance that the collaboration might come off.
