Nigerian artists have been making tremendous progress in their music careers, which is revealed in the international shows they host in European countries.
Burna Boy made history when he filled a 60,000-seat London stadium. Wizkid also filled an 80,000-seat West Ham stadium.
Also, Nigerian artist Asake made headlines and was a topic of discussion on the internet and social media platforms when he filled the 02 Arena in London. This became a trend on social media platforms, with many social media users applauding him and Nigerian artists for their hard work.
Meanwhile, this caused a topic of juxtaposition between Ghanaian and Nigerian artists among Ghanaians. Ghanaians started comparing Nigerian artists to their own artists, with many blasting Ghanaian artists for not doing enough in their music careers just because Nigerians are filling stadiums and bigger auditoriums.
This made some Ghanaian artists furious and voiced their opinions on their social media handles about the current debate and discussion in the music industry, claiming that their focus is not to fill 02 Arena.
Ghanaian rapper Amerado stated in his interview on United ShowBiz that his focus is not to fill 02 Arena but to have enough capital to take care of his family.
“‘I’m struggling to even secure shows to perform, let alone think about filling the O2 Arena. As an artist, my top priority is to feed my family, not fill the O2 Arena. Boys are hungry! We can’t even get shows to perform. Of the shows that were organized in December, how many of them was I billed to perform for me to worry about O2?” he asked.
Another famous Ghanaian rapper, Medikal, also voiced his opinion on the ongoing comparison of Ghanaian and Nigerian artists on his social media handles.
“Ghana music is slowly losing its touch and sauce due to loads of pressure exerted by certain groups of people. The focus of fun and entertainment is gradually being swayed from entertainment to a target/goal. Note Music Nobi Competition.”. He stated
Ghana’s sensational artist, Wendy Shay, also joined the trend when she stated her opinion on her Twitter handle. In her previous posts on Twitter in 2020 and 2021, she assured Ghanaians that she would be bringing Grammys to Ghana to make history.
Meanwhile, in her recent post, the “Habibi” hitmaker stated that filling the O2 Arena and winning Grammys should not be used as indicators of success in the music industry. She also stated that some artists have been successful in their music careers but have not even won a Grammy before.
“Why is Filling 02 and winning a Grammy become the standard to measure the success of an Artist?
Bob Marley and 2Pac are successful musicians but never won a Grammy. Let Ghanaian musicians breathe! Ghana wake up!”. She also stated.
