Merge your SSNIT and Ghana card before December 31 or forfeit your entire pension benefits- SSNIT tells contributors

The Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) announced to the Ghanaian populace that they can now merge their SSNIT card with the Ghana card. This week, SSNIT has announced again that failure to link your SSNIT and Ghana Card until the end of December will put contributors at risk of losing their entire pension benefits legally.

This comes after the social security and national insurance Trust (SSNIT) asserted that beginning January 1, 2022, contributors will no longer use scheme numbers and will instead transact all business the scheme directly using their NIA card numbers.

SSNIT’s decision is supported by Regulation 7(1) of the National Identity Register Regulations, 2012, L.I. 211, which mandates the use of the Ghana Card for “translations pertaining to individuals in respect of pensions.”

Director-General of SSNIT, Dr. John Ofori-Tenkorang, emphasized SSNIT’s commitment to “simplifying the process for customers” with respect to paying pension benefits to contributors.

“The Trust has created avenues to simplify the process for customers and new entrants adding the integration will help fast track adjudication processes, enabling prompt settlement of claims,” Dr. Ofori stated.

The deadline for the merger of the two identification cards is December 31, 2021. This means that beginning January 1, 2022, SSNIT contributors will no longer require their scheme numbers and will instead do all transactions with the trust using their Ghana Card.
