MTN to Hold MOMO Hackathon 2019

MTN is calling for applications into its upcoming MTN MOMO Hackathon. The challenge will give developers an opportunity to use MTN MOMO APIs to provide several solutions to the financial inclusion challenges in MTN’s operational markets.

In a product brief on MTN’s site, the company states that “it seeks businesses, entrepreneurs and developers across the continent to innovate around and leverage Mobile Money to accelerate financial inclusion and payment digitization.”

The MTN MOMO Hackathon, which is to be held in partnership with Ericson, is open to 5 countries : Ghana, Uganda, Cote d’Ivoire, Cameroon and Zambia. And App developers are expected to come up with innovative financial and transactional applications using the MTN mobile money (MoMo) API platform.

This is the idea phase where applicants are to present their solutions. The registration/idea phase will close on Dec 08, 2019 at 11:59 PM UTC. The hackathon is scheduled for Dec 10, 2019, 12:01 AM UTC till Dec 22, 2019, 11:59 PM UTC.

Prizes

1st Prize : USD 2500 – equivalent in local currency plus a trip to Sweden organised by Ericsson for one team member.
