Ghanaian Hiplife Legend Obrafour has sued the Canadian rapper and hitmaker Drake $10 million for sampling his 2003 remix of ‘Oye Ohene’ on his song ‘Calling My Name’.
News trending on the internet suggests Obrafour is suing Drake over copyright infringement when he sampled his song without permission despite the fact that Drake and his team had contacted Obrafour twice through an email seeking an official request from Obrafour to sample ‘Killa cut blood!’ in his ‘Oye Ohene’ song.
Meanwhile, Obrafour never granted Drake and his team permission to use his music sample, by not replying to the email they sent to him. Obrafour’s team rather sued them a few days after releasing the ‘calling my name’ song.
‘Calling my name’ song has already been streamed 4.1 million times on Youtube, streamed over 4.7 million times on Spotify, and streamed tens of millions of times on Apple.
News online suggests that Obrafour is suing not only Drake but also the OVO record, which is Drake’s record label as well as the Republic record label since they have all benefited from his work.
Some social media users are supporting the Ghanaian rapper on the notion that Drake would have done the same, while others are also saying Obrafour intentionally never replied to the email because he knew what he wanted from Drake and his team.
