With Instagram, you can permanently delete or temporarily disable your account for personal reasons, which is totally acceptable.

Permanently deleting your Instagram account in 2022 takes a lot of courage as it is not an easy thing to do. This is because our lives these days are solely hinged on social media and deleting your account means you will be missing out on almost everything.

How to save & download your Instagram account information

To delete your Instagram account, you would first need to download or request your Instagram account data. This is a report of every activity you made on Instagram during that period. (example, Pictures, likes, comments, etc). Here is how to save or access your Instagram account data using iPhone or Android;

Open your Instagram app and tap on your profile image.
Tap on the 3 bar menu at the top right.
A menu will pop up, select your Activity.
Scroll down and tap on Download your Information.
Enter your email and tap on request download.
Enter your Instagram password and click next.
You will receive an email titled Your Instagram Data with a link to your data. Click the download to download your Instagram Information.

How to permanently delete your Instagram Account 2022

Kindly note that you cannot delete your Instagram account through the Instagram app. To permanently delete your Instagram account, kindly log in to your Instagram account using a web browser on your phone or desktop.

However, after agreeing to delete your Account, Instagram will make your account temporarily invisible for 30 days before your account gets permanently deleted. This will help in case you change your mind.

Log in to your Instagram account on the website.
Select a reason for deleting your Instagram Account.
Enter your password to confirm the decision.
Click on “delete my account”

Kindly note: Your account will be hidden for 30days, after which it will be permanently deleted.

How to temporarily disable or deactivate your Instagram account

If you don’t want to totally delete your Instagram account, but you just want a break from Instagram for a while, this is the option for you.

Kindly note that you cannot disable your Instagram account via the app. You can only do it through the web browser on your phone or desktop. Here is how to temporarily disable your Instagram account:

Log in to your Instagram account on your browser.
Click on your Profile Icon and select profile.

Click on Edit Profile, and scroll down. You will see “Temporarily disable my account“.
Select a reason and confirm your password.

Tap on “Temporarily disable my account” to finish.

Kindly note: Per Instagram policy, you can disable your account once per week.

Can I delete my Instagram account on my iPhone or Android phone?

No, you cannot delete your Instagram account on your iPhone or Android app. You have to use login to the web version of Instagram and delete your account
