The Deputy Minister-designate for the Energy Ministry, Collins Adomako-Mensah, has said the government is working to fix the recent power issues in the country within the next two weeks.

Former Power Minister Dr. Kwabena Donkor has also expressed concerns regarding Ghana’s electricity generation capacity, disagreeing with President Akufo-Addo’s claim in Parliament that there has been an uninterrupted power supply for the past seven years.

In response to the recent power outages, the Public Utilities and Regulatory Commission (PURC) has identified insufficient fuel supply as a contributing factor and is set to engage with Independent Power Producers to explore viable solutions.

In an interview with Citi News, Adomako-Mensah assured the public of the government’s full commitment to addressing the issue. He acknowledged the recent power outages and emphasized that efforts are underway to rectify the situation within the next two weeks.

“I acknowledge that over the past two or three weeks, there have been some power outages. It is noteworthy that the recent two-week power outages prompted the Minority to hold a press conference. While I am still settling into the [Energy] Ministry, my preliminary discussions with the Ministry’s officials before my vetting indicate that this issue will be resolved within the next two weeks,” he stated.
