In April of this year, the government of Ghana (GoG), through the minister of Communication and Digitization, announced that they had purchased 100 percent shares of AirtelTigo. This follows the announcements by Bharti Airtel and Millicom International Cellular SA that they would exit the Ghanaian market in 2021. Ghanaians have expressed their opinions on the agreement since it was reached.Hon. Sam Gyata George, who represents the good people of Ningo-Pramparam, is the latest to join this discussion, claiming that the agreement lacks clarity.

In response to Hon. Sam George’s accusation, Hon. Ursula Owusu-Ekuful took to Facebook to call Hon. Sam George a “barefaced liar” for allegedly claiming the Government of Ghana paid $25 million for the transfer of AirtelTigo shares rather than the $1 million she claimed.

“Someone, an MP, says he heard me say we paid $25 million. A barefaced lie… blatant untruth.”

She then quizzed her followers to “Ask Sam George where he heard that.”

Hon.Ursula owusu Ekuful, Mp. Ablekuma Central, believes Ghanaians should “sit back and listen” to the lengthy English grammar and drama that will unfold. “just keep your eyes on the ball. How much did we pay to acquire the company? 1 dollar, simple!” she added.

Hon.Sam George, in a swift response to Hon. Ursula Owusu’s Facebook post, called her “arrogant,” insisting that her “clap backs” would not save her from appearing before the Parliamentary select Committee of communication for accountability of the deal.

“Someone tell our Minister for Communications that grand posturing and arrogant clap backs would not stop us on the Parliamentary committee of Communication and the good people of Ghana from demanding accountability from her”.

“What does she take us for?”, He asked “That she bought AirtelTigo for $1? How much is the eyebrow pencil she uses to draw her eyebrows and she thinks she can insult our intelligence?”

Hon. Sam George further wrote, “Madam, after basking the fake fans of your social media followers, prepare to appear before the Committee and give us details of the transactions. We would allow not only the already burdened taxpayers of our country to be saddled with poorly thought decisions that impose more debts or hardship on us.”

Hon. Ursula Owusu is scheduled to appear before parliament in the coming weeks to provide Ghanaians with clarity and accountability on the deal.
