A very intricating Korean drama seriesTrue Beautydefies all the viewers’ expectations and assumptions. The show creates a stifling sense of suspense that keeps you glued to the screen from episode to episode.
True beauty takes a different form from the usual high school Korean drama series we are all familiar with. This refreshing breeze of plot settings and play script also brings on board a number of not-so-popular talented actors and actresses, giving this 2020 Korean drama series a sense of freshness.
One who has been bullied, or abused sometimes takes drastic life decisions in the hope to eliminate or reduce the cause of bullying. The prevalence of bullying in high schools is a major theme in this television series true beauty. Girls (and in some cases guys) who are themselves just finding who they are, and growing into adulthood sometimes pleasure in downplaying and bullying mates just so they can feel better about themselves. They often present themselves as the “boss chicks” and as the tough ones but more often than not they are the weakest ones with no idea as to how they should help themselves.
The richest person is not one with the most money but one with the most honest and true of friendships. A depiction of genuine friendships is shown throughout the series. Kang Min Ah playing the role of Soo Ah and Moon Ga-Young playing the role of Ju Kyung had such deep love between them such that even when the “ugly” face of Ju Kyung was revealed Soo Ah didn’t abandon her but stood by her side and even got angry that Ju Kyung hadn’t trusted her judgment enough to let her know.
Indeed true friends are those that stand by you when no one else does and vouches for you when you are not in the room.
Another depiction of genuine friendship can be seen between Cha Eun-woo playing the role of Lee Soo Ho and Hwang In-Youp playing the role of Han Seo Jun. A love feud that could have shattered their friendship only resulted in them being more acquainted with one another. Even when there was a misunderstanding between them because of the death of a mutual friend Cheong Se Yeon, they still looked out for each other and still helped each other the best way they could form their comfort zones. Eventually, when the misunderstanding was addressed we see the blossom of a heart friendship that had been suppressed by hurt and pain.
Beauty they say begins the moment you decide to be yourself.
Until you begin to see yourself as being enough you will forever feel inferior to all those around you. Lim Ju Kyung and Yoo Hye Min always felt inadequate and needed to be accepted by everyone before they could feel secure about themselves.
Only until they found the courage to be proud of who they were, stand up for themselves, and face their bullies that they were able to live freely. Because after all whoever set the bar for beauty? “If I hate how I look just because others tease me, it’s the same as admitting that I’m a loser,” said Han Go Woon. And how right she was.
