University of Ghana Set To Award 3 Entrepreneurship Teams on 27th July

Since the number of unemployed graduates in Ghana has been surging over the past years, it has become necessary for schools and other institutions to partner and create an entrepreneurship mentality in the minds of students, especially those in the tertiary sector.

Because of this and many other reasons, the University of Ghana under the Office of Research Innovation and Development (ORID) partnered with the Impact Hub Accra, Imperial College London, and the British Council to launch the Innovation for African Universities dubbed Connecting Accra Project.

The Connecting Accra Project gave the Office of Research, Innovation, and Development an opportunity to respond to student innovators’ needs and personal and professional development.

The program’s goal was to encourage students to engage in creative, purposeful play, and innovation as preparation for engaged, global citizenship that addresses the world’s major challenges. It quickly became a place where over 100 students from 18 different teams applied their studies and interests to real-world problems and developed business solutions to help them succeed beyond the University.

The teams have primarily created digital businesses in a variety of major industries, including:

  • Agriculture (Agrimercarb, Agronomy, Agrotecknika, Black Onyx Pig Farm, Cartagro Africa, Feathery Care, Pigarty, Reality Hennery, Silo, Stefarms)
  • Beauty (Salon Jet)
  • Education (Nubuake Companies Limited)
  • Finance (Mam Ne Fo)
  • Healthcare (Calme)
  • Real Estate (Acomod8,HostelGig)
  • Security (Fihankra Comtech LLC.)
  • Transport (Trotro)

After being taken through venture training, the top five (5) teams from this year’s program will be exhibiting their ideas and businesses on the 27th of July 2020 at the “Demo” day out of which the top three (3) teams will be given special undisclosed prizes. This main goal of the project has been achieved since all the teams involved took the training and the entire project seriously.

The details of the Demo Day are as follows:

Date: 27th July 2022

Venue: ISSER Conference Facility

Time: 3:00 pm

If you are around the University of Ghana or happen to be free on the D-day, make sure to come and listen to some great ideas from the future leaders of Ghana.
