Vodafone Ghana launches 4G and 4.5G services

Vodafone Ghana has officially launched its 4G Long-Term Evolution (LTE) and 4.5 G service in an event held in Accra on Tuesday.

Speaking at the launch, the outgoing chief executive officer of Vodafone Ghana, Yolanda Cuba expressed joy at the achievement of the company.

“Today we launch the 4G and 4.5G internet experience in Ghana and I am super excited. This 4G service is one of our biggest investments after Vodafone UK became part of Vodafone Ghana. It is also one of the biggest achievements that I’ve made outside the people I’ve worked.”

She added that she believed the newly launched service will lead us to the real world of data and connectivity while getting the country on its way to the fourth digital revolution.

The event brought together several dignitaries within the telecommunication space of Ghana, including the Minister for Communications and the incoming CEO of Vodafone Ghana Patricia Obo-Nai .

The Director General of the National Communications Authority (NCA), Joseph Anokye, who also graced the occasion, praised Vodafone Ghana for the perfect timing in introducing 4G services into the country.

He said that there has been an increasing demand for faster and more stable connectivity as there has been an increased use of applications that rely on data. As such a strong network connection has become an essential requirement in our society.

About Vodafone 4G LTE

The Vodafone 4G LTE technologies operate in the 2x5MHz frequency block in the 800MHz band as stipulated in the license conditions agreed between Vodafone and the National Communications Authority (NCA) last December.

Minister for Communications, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful also expressed satisfaction at the launch. According to her Vodafone’s 4G launch is a timely milestone for the industry and the government, as a thirty per cent shareholder, is truly excited about this.

She added that the government will keep working to ensure that the telecoms sector is properly regulated with the relevant policies and initiatives.

Vodafone Ghana last year won one slot out of three to begin 4G operations (2x5MHz frequency spectrum block in the 800 MHz Band) for mobile services.
