Will Cathcart, the CEO of WhatsApp Inc., has stated that the social media platform is working on a chat history migration feature that will be available in a few months.
The feature will allow you to move your WhatsApp chat history from one platform to another, irrespective of your operating system. As a result, you can transfer your WhatsApp chat history from Android to iOS and vice versa.
Despite speculations that the company was working on this feature as early as May, details of the new functionality and the devices that will be supported initially were not revealed. Yesterday, Cathcart confirmed the new feature on Twitter.
“Want to securely take your WhatsApp history from one platform to another? We’re working to make this possible starting with @SamsungMobile devices, and it’s coming to @Android and iOS phones soon, ” WhatsApp CEO stated in a tweet.
Chat migration will be the first step in activating WhatsApp chats across multiple devices. Like Telegram, you will be able to use your WhatsApp account across two or more devices with different operating systems. You will only have to download and sign in to your WhatsApp account on a different device and have access to see media files, stickers, chats, stared, and pinned messages across all other devices.
Even though customers have sought the upgrade for a long time, WhatsApp explained that in order to develop this feature securely, it had to go through and pass multiple checks with device manufacturers and operating systems.
However, according to WABetaInfo, some actions, such as message deletion, may not yet be synchronized across multiple devices. Messages deleted on one device may not be deleted on the other device migrated to. The reason for this action has not been stated by WhatsApp even though this too is still under development. Also, the medium to be used for the migration and the official release date of the stable version has not been stated by the facebook-owned company.
