Whatsapp reverses decision to limit functionality of users who haven’t accepted the new policy

WhatsApp Inc. announced a new policy in February that will allow them to share users’ data with parent company Facebook for advertising purposes. This policy was compulsory for users to accept in other for them to continue using the app. Users were outraged by the decision and planned a boycott of the app.

WhatsApp then had to postpone the final date for accepting the policy to May 15th, 2021. Failure to agree to the policy will see your app functionality limited.

However, Facebook has now made repeal and reversed the decision to limit the functionality of users who haven’t accepted the policy yet according to TNW.

“Given recent discussions with various authorities and privacy experts, we want to make clear that we will not limit the functionality of how WhatsApp works for those who have not yet accepted the update,” WhatsApp representative said in a statement.

In a statement, WhatsApp revealed that “the majority of users” have accepted the new policy, and they will continue to “remind users” to agree to the new policy.

“We will continue to remind users from time to time and let them accept the update, including when they choose to use relevant optional features like communicating with a business that is receiving support from Facebook,”..goes on to say.”We hope this approach reinforces the choice that all users have whether or not they want to interact with a business,” they added.
