Meet Kate, who married the world’s ugliest man Baguma and the whole world thought she made the biggest mistake for such a decision.
Baguma, also known as Ssebabi (Ugliest of all), a Ugandan, was born as a normal child in 1973, but as he grew up, he started developing a tumor that deformed his head in a way that made him look odd.
He was diagnosed with a rare condition called fibrodysplasia, which affects the growth and placement of his cells and tissue.
His health can be managed with the correct medication, and fortunately, reports say his condition cannot be transmitted to his children, and none of them has had any deformity so far.
He is a musician, a comedian, and a cobbler whose main source of living is to mend people’s shoes for a fee.
Kate and Baguma lived together for some years, had four children, and thought it prudent to officially announce their union, by undertaking a white wedding, which got the attention of many people worldwide.
Many voiced their opinion that their marriage would not last, however, it has been the other way around as the couple has been together for the past 28 years now.
In an interview with Afrimax TV, Kate opens up about the reason why she made such a bold decision to marry Baguma who won the ugliest man in the world, and how her friends and family reacted when she wanted to marry Baguma.
According to Kate, her family and friends firmly oppose her decision to marry Baguma, but she looks beyond the looks of Baguma.
“My family told me he is too ugly and they don’t want him in our family. It wasn’t easy because the whole family was up against me but I told them we would live together whether they liked it or not. Because they did not agree, I moved in with him until we had four children before our marriage was blessed”.
Kate also shared how life has been for her since she married the Ugliest man in the world and also revealed that she saw deep potential in her husband that the world wouldn’t see, and all the potential in Baguma her husband has manifested.
“People say we are not the perfect match but I was in love with him. I knew he had potential so I looked beyond his looks. When we started dating, our communication was perfect and I saw honesty in him, and till today, he has never changed,” she said amidst smiles”.
In answering to critique that Kate married Baguma because of money, she shared that Baguma was poor when she decided to marry him, and his current situation is nothing better.
She, however, couldn’t hide her joy when Baguma took part in the World’s Ugliest Man contest in 2002, beating other contestants across the world to become the ugliest man in the world.
