Are you often asked to provide the zip code when you’re trying to fill out a form online and you don’t know what to write there? Like everyone in Ghana, We’re not used to zipcodes, and you are not weird for not knowing your area’s zip code. Unfortunately, there is no zip code for Accra, Kumasi or Koforidua. In order to use zip codes in Ghana, you must first install the Ghana Post GPS and use the area’s respective postal address.
Zip is an acronym that stands for Zone Improvement Plan. Zipcodes are used to facilitate mail delivery in the USA. Zipcodes are a string of alphanumeric characters that represent the postal code of a community. It represents the building or area to which a specific mail will be delivered.
According to Wikipedia, zipcodes were first introduced in 1963 by the United States postal service. This service was adopted when the United States Postal Service(USPS) realized routing mails using zip codes was faster and more efficient.
Zipcodes are not available in Ghana. Even though zip codes are available in other African countries like South Africa, Nigeria, and Kenya. Ghana doesn’t recognize the zip code system. But rather, Ghana uses the postal code system to help deliver mails.
GhanaPostGPS facilitates the postal code for Ghana. GhanaPostGPS has provided digital addresses for all structures in the country, making delivery much easier. All you have to do is set up your GhanaPostGPS and your mail will be delivered to your doorstep.
The only difference is that the USPS uses zip codes, whereas the Ghana Post Service uses postcodes. They are all used for mailing and delivery purposes to identify where mails should be delivered.
The postal code for Ghana is the first 5 digits of your digital address. (click here to generate the digital address for your area). Here is an example of postal for Accra; GA145 which represents Ghana’s Independence Square. The GA stands for the Postcode district, where the G represents the Greater Accra Region, A for the Accra Metropolitan District, and the 145 representing the postcode area. Other areas have GA107, GA185. etc.
Conclusions
Ghana does not have zip codes instead we use the postal code system. However, if you are in Ghana and you have to fill an international form online but the form requires you to insert a ZipCode, don’t hesitate to key in 00233 or 23321. This will not have any effect on the form. Also, remember that if you are required to key in your Postal Code, it is the first five digits in your Digital Address. For example, if your DIgital address is AK-504-184, then your Postal Code is AK504. Click here to generate your digital address.

Please Ghana does not use zipcode. We only use postal code. However some people use 00233 on forms
